African Adventures Foundation

African Adventures Foundation is a registered charity in England & Wales (1153361), which exists to provide regular, long-term support to our partner projects in Ghana, Kenya and Zanzibar. These projects are non-governmental organisations (NGOs) which provide opportunity to deprived communities, and underfunded and overcrowded government schools in clear need of support. Funds donated through the Foundation allow the projects to develop, through the supply of vital tools and resources that would be otherwise unavailable to them.

Thanks to generous support from African Adventures, the Foundation is able to commit 100% of all donations to our work in Africa, enabling even greater change to be made.

Regular Giving

African Adventures Foundation needs your help to continue providing education, healthcare and nutrition in underprivileged areas of Ghana, Kenya and Zanzibar.

A regular donation of as little as £5 a month is a great way to continue supporting the projects that you helped during your volunteer trip. As a thank you for your continued support, we will keep you updated with the latest Foundation news, and let you know about the exciting fundraising events that we have planned throughout the year.

African Adventures covers the core running costs of the charity and, thanks to this generous support, 100% of every penny raised by our Foundation will go to the projects we support – so you can rest assured that your donation will be making a positive impact where it is needed most.

If you are unable to donate money but still want to keep in touch, please fill in the form at the bottom of the page.

Gift Aid Declaration

Gift Aid It!Add 25% more to your donation at no cost to you. A Gift Aid declaration allows African Adventures Foundation to claim tax back on eligible donations. It means that for every £1 you donate to African Adventures Foundation we can claim back 25p, at no extra cost to you.

By ticking the "Yes" box, I agree I would like African Adventures Foundation to reclaim the tax on all qualifying donations I have made, as well as any future donations, until I notify them otherwise. I understand that if I pay less Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all my donations in that tax year I may be asked to pay any difference. I understand that African Adventures Foundation will reclaim 25p of tax on every £1 that I give.

What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid does not cost you a penny more, but can add an additional 25p to every £1 you donate. When African Adventures Foundation receives a donation from a UK taxpayer, we're entitled to claim an amount of tax (calculated at the basic rate of income tax in that year) paid on that donation. Once you have given your permission for us to do this on your behalf, there is no need for you to do anything else.

All that is required is that you must be a taxpayer and that would have paid or will pay sufficient Income and/or Capital Gains Tax to cover all the Gift Aid claimed on all your donations in that tax year. Please note that it is your responsibility to pay any difference.

The amount of tax we claim will be 25% of the total value of your donations in that tax year. Furthermore, if you are a higher taxpayer, you are also entitled to claim the difference between the basic rate which we will claim and the amount of tax you have actually paid. For further details on how you can do this, please contact your tax office. If your tax situation changes and your gifts will no longer be eligible for the Gift Aid scheme please contact us and we will amend your record accordingly.

Projects Supported

Collectively, our partner projects touch the lives of over 20,000 children each day. Since 2013, African Adventures Foundation has provided extra funding to build on the support given by the hundreds of volunteers that travel with African Adventures every year.

We have an ambitious fundraising target of £120,000 for this year. To achieve this, we have some great fundraising plans in place:

  • Our 2017 skydive charity challengers are aiming to raise thousands for our Big Build Kenya campaign. This money is still coming in and we can’t wait to share the final total!
  • The dedicated African Adventures UK staff team raised over £1,000 by participating in the ABP Southampton 10k on 23rd April.
  • We aim to raise £3,000 from our team 2017 Mount Kenya climb in August.
  • Our fabulous annual fundraising dinner on 6th May raised almost £7,000!
  • Our Big Bike Ride team aim to raise over £5,000 for The Big Build Kenya campaign by riding the 1,200km from Nakuru to Dar es Salaam.

Watch this space for more fundraising plans and successes throughout 2017.

Our challengers summit Mount Kenya for African Adventures Foundation

Claire reflects on her challenging five-day Mount Kenya charity expedition which she embarked on in February with fellow climbers, Kate and Dave, to raise vital funds for African Adventures Foundation.

Easter Volunteer Programme

The various holidays throughout the academic calendar can be busy periods in-country and this Easter volunteer programme is no exception. Here's a brief run-down of just some of the work the soon-to-be travelling volunteers will be getting up to.

The Big Bike Ride – Day Eleven – Chalinze to Dar Es Salaam

Despite probably needing a good sleep more than at any point in the ride so far, we only managed a few hours and got up at 5:30am, ready to get on the road at 6.30am.

The Big Bike Ride – Day Ten – Mgata to Chalinze

Our penultimate day arrived and, whilst we’d be guilty of massaging of our own self-importance for thinking it was real, it felt like news of The Big Bike Ride had spread through the small towns and villages...

The Big Bike Ride – Day Nine – Mombo to Mgata

At 78 miles, today proved to be the most physically demanding yet. The first half was similar to yesterday – long, flat roads made worse by strong winds – and the second half drew hills that we hadn’t yet seen...

The Big Bike Ride – Day Eight – Same to Mombo

If yesterday’s ride was green and hilly, today posed a different challenge. We left Same and headed further south with little around us but vast, open savannahs and just a couple of villages along the way.
