What is Brick by Brick?

Our Brick by Brick campaign aims to raise the vital funds needed to complete the build of a new two-storey, eight-classroom block at Dedzidi Community School in Ghana. African Adventures and African Adventures Foundation have spent £28,000 on the building so far – but there are four classrooms left to build, and you can help with this. We are asking you to continue the great support that have given us in the past by donating to our campaign. Through Brick by Brick, you can select the number of bricks you would like to contribute via the amount that you donate. You can donate via text, post, or on our website.

For many of the children who attend our partner projects in Ghana, Kenya, and Zanzibar, the chance to go to school is regarded as a luxury. In Ghana, where earning an income is often prioritised over getting an education, many children work to support their family rather than going to school. We hope to encourage more children to attend school by increasing and improving the facilities on offer, thereby making the prospect of going to school more enticing.

With your help, we will raise the money needed to finish construction on the classrooms at Dedzidi – Brick by Brick.

So far, Brick by Brick has raised £405.00!

Why Dedzidi?

Brick by Brick - Why Dedzidi?

Dedzidi Community School is a private school located in the Volta Region of Ghana which accommodates students from nursery to junior high school level.

Established in 1990, the school provides an education for approximately 430 students between the ages of two and 14.

African Adventures has been partnered with Dedzidi since 2014. Since this time, our volunteers have worked to improve the facilities within the school. A significant achievement as a result of these efforts is the provision of essential classroom space – meaning class sizes have been reduced from 50 to 40.

The finished expansion of the new building will allow Dedzidi to accept more students from the surrounding community of Anloga, increasing access to  education for more children. Currently, four of the eight classrooms have been completed.

Individuals

Donate what you can

A donation of just £1 can buy a brick, so the saying “every little helps” has never been truer. If large donations by businesses or schools are the bricks, then smaller donations, by individuals like you, are the mortar! Please donate what you can, and spread the word!

Gift Aid Declaration

Gift Aid It!Add 25% more to your donation at no cost to you. A Gift Aid declaration allows African Adventures Foundation to claim tax back on eligible donations. It means that for every £1 you donate to African Adventures Foundation we can claim back 25p, at no extra cost to you.

By ticking the "Yes" box, I agree I would like African Adventures Foundation to reclaim the tax on all qualifying donations I have made, as well as any future donations, until I notify them otherwise. I understand that if I pay less Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all my donations in that tax year I may be asked to pay any difference. I understand that African Adventures Foundation will reclaim 25p of tax on every £1 that I give.

What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid does not cost you a penny more, but can add an additional 25p to every £1 you donate. When African Adventures Foundation receives a donation from a UK taxpayer, we're entitled to claim an amount of tax (calculated at the basic rate of income tax in that year) paid on that donation. Once you have given your permission for us to do this on your behalf, there is no need for you to do anything else.

All that is required is that you must be a taxpayer and that would have paid or will pay sufficient Income and/or Capital Gains Tax to cover all the Gift Aid claimed on all your donations in that tax year. Please note that it is your responsibility to pay any difference.

The amount of tax we claim will be 25% of the total value of your donations in that tax year. Furthermore, if you are a higher taxpayer, you are also entitled to claim the difference between the basic rate which we will claim and the amount of tax you have actually paid. For further details on how you can do this, please contact your tax office. If your tax situation changes and your gifts will no longer be eligible for the Gift Aid scheme please contact us and we will amend your record accordingly.
